- This package contains some files that can be used with Miika Asunta's FS-ATC
- version 2.0 program that adds an air traffic controller to Microsoft's Flight
- Simulator 4.0
-
- I wrote them to provide some interesting challenges for instrument flight on
- Flight Sim. They are best run with the Lear 25G jet (the longer ones are a bit
- boring with the Cessna).
-
- Each folder contains:
-
- 1) A MS Flight Sim situation file.
- 2) A FS-ATC 2.0 controller file.
- 3) Other documentation (explanatory maps etc).
-
- Once started and you must make an initial call by hitting Cmd-Shift-8. Once
- airborne the files will automatically track you and issue instructions unless
- the previous instruction is "report overhead..." or "contact..." In these cases
- you have to hit Cmd-Shift-8 to make contact and get the next instructions.
-
- DCA-DCA
- =======
- You start: Washington DCA runway 18
- You finish: Washington DCA runway 18
- Scenery file: SD-7 World Scenery
- Other files: DCA IFR R18 Apprch (PICT): an approach plate for runway 18.
-
- Object
- ------
- Take off from DCA runway 18 and make a circuit of Washington to land back on
- runway 18. You are under air traffic control at all times.
-
- Description
- -----------
- This flight is based on an approach chart that I found on Compuserve. A direct
- approach to this runway 18 would fly over the White House so to avoid harming
- the delicate ears of the president an exciting curved approach has to be used.
-
- Hints
- -----
- This is very tricky flight especially on instruments. To do the approach
- properly you need to be alert and respond quickly and accuratly to the
- controllers instructions.
-
- CDG-LHR
- =======
- You start: Paris Charles de Gaulle
- You finish: London Heathrow runway 10L
- Scenery file: SD-EUROPE World Scenery
-
- Object
- ------
- Taxi straight ahead around the taxiway. You are to Take off from CDG runway 27
- to fly to London heathrow.
-
- Description
- -----------
- This flight reproduces a flight that is made dozens of times a day.
-
- Hints
- -----
- Pay attention to the controllers instructions. Most of the time you are under
- radar control but occasionally you have to report overhead a certain position to
- recieve instructions.
-
- OAKLAND CIRCUITS AND BUMPS
- ==========================
- You start: Oakland 27L
- You finish: Oakland 11
- Scenery file: FS World Scenery
-
- Object
- ------
- This is a flight from one Oakland runway to another. The main point of this is
- to practice an ILS approach. You can set the wind and weather to make it more of
- a challenge.
-
- Hints
- -----
- Straightforward in good weather.
-
- MARTHA TO BLOCK NDB APPROACH
- ============================
- You start: Marthas vineyard 01
- You finish: Block island 28
- Scenery file: FS World Scenery
- Other files: NDB approach to Block Island
-
- Object
- ------
- Take off from Marthas vineyard runway 01 and fly to Block Island.
-
- Description
- -----------
- This flight demonstrates the use of and NDB beacon which is more difficult to
- use than a VOR beacon. In this case there is other traffic at Block Island and
- you are forced to stack. See the MacPaint picture for the stacking circuit that
- should be flown with careful attention to the OMI and stopwatch. In the Flight
- Sim try cmd-Y to plot your orbiting to see how accurate you are.
-
- Hints
- -----
- The NDB approach is more difficult and less precise than a VOR or ILS approach,
- especially with a cross wind. This is why you have to break off earlier unless
- the runway is in sight.
